Program Development

• Themes and conversations to connect generations and build friendships

• Pre- and post-evaluation by elders, youth, teachers, and social workers

Approach

• Connect elder facilities with nearby schools in the same district for long-term partnerships
• Regular relationship-building programme for elders and youth
• One elder paired with 1-2 students
• Focus on relationship building rather than programme outcomes
• Graduation and/or exhibition to celebrate the intergenerational friendships

I think the overall programme adds joy and relieves the monotony of life in care homes. It stimulates elders’ memories and passion for life. I like the chat room sessions. One elder has continued to share her talent for rapping and music with us after this programme.
